AUDITIONS
Fall '20 auditions for the fall will be done via online video submission due to COVID-19 restrictions. The due date for all submissions in August 30, 2020 at 11:59 PM. These videos should be made ahead of time and submitted by either the following form (https://forms.gle/sKg2FYf18HEJtVFc6, google login required) or email (manager+fall20auditions@lyso.org). All of the requirements are the same as stated below. Standard definition videos are preferred to keep file sizes down, rather than HD or 4K resolution.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA:
Solo:
Strings/Winds/Percussion - Select a Class A or Class B solo from the WSMA festival list OR select a piece of similar difficulty that is not on the list. Please include copies of your solo for the judges.

Scales: Find your instrument below for scale PDF. Play as many octaves as you are able.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ITALIANO ORCHESTRA:
Solo:
Wind/Percussion - Select a class A solo (3 minute excerpt) from the WSMA festival list OR a piece of similar difficulty that is not on the list. Please include copies of the your solo for the judges.

Strings - Select a Class A or Class B solo (3 minute excerpt) from the WSMA festival list OR a piece of similar difficulty that is not on the list. Please include copies of the your solo for the judges.

Scales: Find your instrument below for scale PDF. Play as many octaves as you are able.
Adjudicators

The adjudication panel consists of LYSO conductors and faculty. The panel’s placement decisions are final.

Chair Placements:

All members (new and returning) must play a separate chair placement audition at the first rehearsal in September and January.

Requirements and excerpts for chair placements will be available directly following auditions.

Students who do not attend the first rehearsal in September or January for any reason will be placed at the back of their section.

General Notes:

Auditions are for new members only. Existing members will not re-audition
-
Orchestra placements last the entire season, Fall and Spring semesters.

Auditions are closed to parents and the public.
-
Students will be judged on intonation, interpretation, tone, rhythm, technique, and scale proficiency.

Orchestra placements may not be appealed

Audition results will be emailed to everyone within 24 hours following the audition date.
