Auditions for the 2011-2012 Season

Orchestra membership is based on musical ability as well as the orchestra's specific needs for instrumentation for the season. Young musicians from 5th grade through 12th grade who play an orchestral instrument may audition. Everyone must do a placement audition each year, regardless of previous participation. With two orchestras to fill, there are many opportunities for talented musicians.

What to play at your audition:

  • ♫ A solo of the student's choice - no longer than 3 minutes - that demonstrates the musician's musical and technical abilities. This piece does not need to be memorized and must be played without accompaniment.

  • ♫  Play one scale of student's choice (3 octaves if possible).

  • ♫  Sight reading may also be part of the audition.

  • Your Time Commitment to the LYSO:


  • ♪  Both orchestras rehearse on Saturday mornings at Lincoln Middle School in
          La Crosse.

                Philharmonic String Orchestra: 9:45 AM - 12:15 PM
                Italiano Orchestra: 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM

    ♪  Each orchestra has 9 rehearsals per semester.

                1st semester: September 10th - November 19th  Concert on November 19th.
                2nd semester: January 14th - March 24th        Concert on March 24th
